Baghdad: Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari has directed the sustained use of modern and advanced methods in the fight against drugs.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Minister’s office detailed that al-Shammari chaired a conference at the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances. The meeting was attended by its Director General and directors of drug enforcement in Baghdad, along with provincial directors of drug affairs via video conference.
During the conference, the Minister received a comprehensive briefing on the Directorate’s work in January, reviewing achievements and progress. He emphasized several key recommendations to bolster the Directorate’s operations, underscoring the relentless pursuit of drug traffickers.
Al-Shammari reiterated the importance of employing advanced methods in drug combating efforts. He also highlighted the need to focus on rehabilitation centers and increase efforts to treat victims affected by drug abuse.
The Minister commended the professional work of the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, assuring continued support and the provision of necessary resources to facilitate the success of their mission.
