Baghdad: Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari on Tuesday underscored the importance of strengthening security measures and tightening border controls to prevent infiltration attempts.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Shammari, accompanied by several senior ministry officials, conducted a field visit to the Iraqi-Syrian border strip within Al-Qaim and Al-Rumana districts, as part of direct on-site monitoring of the security situation and a review of measures in place to secure the border. During the visit, he assessed the level of readiness and field deployment of forces tasked with border protection.
The statement added that the minister received a detailed briefing on approved security plans, intelligence-gathering mechanisms, and the level of coordination among the Ministry of Interior’s departments and supporting formations. He also held a meeting with senior officers in the area of responsibility to discuss key security challenges and ways to enhance existing measures and develop field and intelligence operations in line with current requirements and border security needs.
Al-Shammari emphasized the need to intensify intelligence efforts and reinforce security procedures to thwart any infiltration attempts or threats, stressing the importance of maintaining the highest levels of vigilance and discipline to safeguard national sovereignty and public security. He praised the high morale of security personnel stationed along the border, commending their sacrifices and dedication in carrying out their national duties.
He further noted the ministry’s continued support in providing all necessary requirements to enable the forces to perform their duties with maximum efficiency.
