Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced the seizure of approximately 2,500,000 Captagon pills in a collaborative security operation with Syria. This operation marks a significant effort in the fight against transnational organized crime.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the operation was conducted by the Iraqi Ministry of Interior's General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, in partnership with the Anti-Narcotics Directorate in Syria. This joint effort targeted an international criminal network involved in the manufacture, smuggling, and distribution of narcotics. The coordinated operation led to the arrest of an individual identified as (A.A.) within Iraq, along with two other network members in Syria. This resulted in the confiscation of a substantial quantity of Captagon pills, disrupting a primary operational route of the network.
The Ministry's statement noted that legal actions have been initiated against the apprehended individual in Iraq, who has been transferred to judicial authorities for further proceedings. The General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, along with its international counterparts, remains committed to tracking down the remaining members of the network using precise intelligence information.
The Ministry of Interior emphasized that this achievement highlights the enhanced regional security cooperation and demonstrates the capability of Iraqi security forces to counter cross-border threats and safeguard society from drug-related dangers.
