Interior Ministry: Arms Trafficker Arrested in Nineveh


Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday the arrest of an arms trafficker in Nineveh province.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the ministry stated that the Anti-Crime Department in Tal Afar, under the Nineveh Police Command, successfully apprehended the arms trafficker after obtaining judicial approvals and conducting thorough search and investigation operations, coupled with continuous monitoring.

The suspect was lured and captured in a meticulously planned ambush near Tel Marg village in the Ayadiyah subdistrict, located west of Mosul. During the arrest, authorities seized 390 live 7.62-mm Kalashnikov rounds and two Tariq pistols from the trafficker’s possession, one of which was chambered in 9 mm and the other in 8.5 mm.

The ministry confirmed that legal action has been initiated against the suspect, who has been detained under Article 24/1 of Weapons Law No. 51 of 2017.
