Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of two members of a criminal network involved in international drug trafficking and the seizure of 400,000 Captagon pills in their possession, in cooperation with Syrian authorities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated in a press release that the operation was part of joint security cooperation and intelligence sharing with the Syrian Arab Republic. A targeted operation was executed in Homs Governorate, facilitated by a specialized detachment from the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances crossing into Syrian territory, coordinated with the Syrian Anti-Narcotics Directorate.

The Ministry further elaborated that the operation successfully led to the capture of the two suspects and the confiscation of the narcotic pills, which were intended for smuggling as part of a cross-border operation. This action highlights the ongoing preemptive measures being taken against drug trafficking networks and demonstrates the high level of coordination and effective cooperation between the relevant agencies in both countries, ultimately bolstering regional security.

The Ministry of Interior emphasized its relentless pursuit of drug traffickers, in collaboration with allied nations, to ensure the security of society and safeguard future generations from the dangers posed by drugs.
