Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior on Sunday mourned two officers of the Federal Police who were killed, while five other personnel sustained varying injuries during a security mission to quell a tribal dispute that broke out last night in al-Saada area near the gas plant in Rusafa, Baghdad.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a press statement, the ministry said that “the security force tasked with the mission came under direct armed attack from those involved in the dispute, prompting it to respond to the sources of fire in an attempt to control the situation and apprehend the perpetrators.”
The statement added that “the confrontation resulted in the killing of two attackers, the injury of five others, and the arrest of six suspects,” noting that security forces are continuing wide-scale search and raid operations in the neighborhoods of the area to pursue the remaining wanted individuals.
The Interior Ministry stressed that “the law will be enforced firmly, and justice will reach anyone who attempts to target security personnel or threaten civil peace,” emphasizing that “measures will be deterrent against those who incite tribal strife and armed disputes, and there will be no leniency in pursuing them until they are brought before justice.”
The ministry concluded its statement by affirming that “imposing the authority of the state and the rule of law is an absolute priority, and the security operation will not cease until all those responsible for the attack are captured and brought to justice, to serve as an example to others.”
