Abu dhabi: The International Center for Combating Media Misinformation (ICCMD) has launched a significant initiative with the introduction of the International Charter for Media Integrity and a new technological system designed to monitor and analyze digital content. These developments were sanctioned during the inaugural meeting of the Center’s Board of Directors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the announcement was made in a virtual meeting led by Issa Al Shaiji, Chairman of the Board. Participants included Khaled Bekdash, President of the International Organization for Press and Media – Netherlands, and several vice chairpersons from different regions, including Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Araimi and Dr. Younes Mjahed. The initiative aims to bolster technical and professional capabilities, focusing on the analysis of digital media content and the use of artificial intelligence to enhance data analysis.

The launch of the International Charter seeks to establish a global network of media institutions, academic bodies, and research entities committed to shared principles of media verification and responsibility. This initiative is a crucial step towards fostering international cooperation in the media sector.

Issa Al-Shayji emphasized the Center’s vision of integrating media and technological expertise to address rapid changes in the media landscape. The new system will support verification processes and data analysis by employing advanced AI technologies.

Her Excellency Fadheela Al-Muaini highlighted that tackling media misinformation requires a comprehensive approach that includes technology and international collaboration. She underscored the importance of employing AI and other tools to detect misleading content while reinforcing regional and international partnerships to uphold the principles of integrity and transparency in media operations.
