Iran and Oman Discuss Maritime Traffic Management in Strait of Hormuz

Muscat: The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday that talks between Iran and Oman addressed arrangements for managing maritime traffic and shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The ministry indicated that both sides agreed to continue consultations to ensure navigational security and reach a common understanding.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei stated, "Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his Omani counterpart, Badr al-Busaidi, held talks yesterday, Saturday, in the Omani capital, Muscat, regarding the management of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The discussions focused on coordinating procedures between the two countries bordering the Strait of Hormuz to regulate maritime traffic in this vital waterway."

Baghaei added that a Qatari delegation also participated in part of the talks hosted by the Sultanate of Oman.

The spokesperson emphasized that Iran believes any future arrangements for managing maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz must be coordinated between the two coastal states, taking into account the security developments the region has witnessed in recent months, particularly the war allegedly waged by the United States and Israel, and its repercussions on maritime security in the strait. He explained that Tehran and Muscat agreed to continue dialogue at the political, technical, and legal levels to reach a common understanding on securing maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
