Baghdad: Iran and Oman have engaged in discussions to regulate navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, focusing on determining the number of ships transiting through Iranian and Omani waters.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the two countries have made progress in negotiations aimed at enhancing navigational safety and the flow of traffic in the region. These talks included a proposed mechanism for distributing ship traffic between the southern corridor along the Omani coast and the corridor within Iranian territorial waters. The discussions are centered on improving the management of one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry revealed that Tehran hosted several rounds of talks at the deputy foreign minister level on July 24 and 25. These meetings addressed the general principles and practical mechanisms essential for ensuring safe and smooth navigation through the strategic waterway.
