Iran and Pakistan Engage in Talks Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Islamabad: Iran and Pakistan have engaged in discussions to address the escalating regional crisis, underscoring the importance of de-escalation and diplomatic solutions. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry reported that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi to deliberate on recent developments and military escalations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry issued a press release stating, "The two ministers exchanged views on the latest developments, with Ishaq Dar stressing the need for de-escalation and calling on all parties to exercise maximum restraint." Emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy as key to resolving conflicts, Dar highlighted the necessity of achieving lasting security and stability in the region.

The Iranian news agency Tasnim confirmed that Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi discussed regional developments during the call with the Pakistani Deputy Foreign Minister. However, further details of the talks were not disclosed.

These discussions occur in the wake of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) completing a third round of airstrikes against Iranian targets. These actions were reportedly in response to an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, contributing to escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran. There are increasing concerns regarding the conflict's potential to impact international maritime security and energy markets.

In a related development, both Pakistan and India have called for de-escalation in the region, particularly following the attack on the container ship "GFS Galaxy" off the coast of Oman in the Strait of Hormuz.
