Baghdad: The Iranian judiciary announced on Wednesday the execution of Iranian citizen Babak Shahbazi, after he was convicted of spying for the Israeli Mossad.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the death sentence was carried out by hanging against Mossad spy Babak Shahbazi, after completing legal procedures and the verdict was ratified by the Iranian Supreme Court.

The Agency explained that Shahbazi worked as a contractor in the field of designing and installing industrial refrigeration equipment for companies affiliated with security, military, and communications centers and organizations. He met a person named Ismail Fekri, who was also executed on June 17, 2025, on charges of collaborating with Mossad after being convicted of "enmity against God and corruption on earth" in collaboration with the Israeli intelligence Agency.

The Agency noted that Shahbazi was sending Mossad officers precise and specific information regarding the precise addresses of Iranian projects, the nature of their activities, the methods of entry and exit from each location, and other important intelligence information.

For his part, the head of the Iranian judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, stated that the judiciary in Iran will deal with spies firmly and in accordance with the law and justice. Confronting spies is a justified demand par excellence, and accordingly, the Iranian judiciary will take the necessary measures in cooperation with the country's security institutions.

The head of the Iranian judiciary explained that the identification process is the responsibility of the intelligence agencies, and the judiciary will impose the necessary penalties on them based on justice and in accordance with prevailing legal regulations.
