Iran: The agreement with Saudi Arabia will help end the Yemen war

Baghdad Iranian mission to the United Nations said that reaching an agreement with Saudi Arabia to restore bilateral relations will contribute to reaching a political settlement that ends the war in Yemen, according to Iranian official media, Sunday.

On Friday, Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to restore diplomatic relations and reopen their Embassies in both countries, after 7 years of tensions between the two countries, with Chinese mediation.

The IRNA News Agency said, quoting a statement issued by Iran’s mission to the United Nations, that the agreement with Saudi Arabia “will accelerate efforts to renew the ceasefire agreement,” and “will contribute to the start of a national dialogue and the formation of a comprehensive national government in Yemen.”

The ceasefire, the longest in the Yemen conflict, ended last October, but the two sides stopped taking escalatory measures that could lead to fighting.
