Tehran: Iran has expressed its support for an agreement reached between Yemeni parties on a prisoner exchange, highlighting the development as a significant humanitarian achievement.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei praised Oman’s instrumental role in facilitating dialogue between the ruling Ansarullah movement and the Saudi-backed administration in Aden. Baqaei emphasized that Muscat’s mediation was essential in reaching the accord.

Baqaei conveyed Iran’s hope that the agreement would serve as a foundation for addressing unresolved issues, fostering peace and stability throughout Yemen, and preserving the nation’s territorial integrity. The prisoner exchange deal, announced by the rival Yemeni factions on Tuesday, includes the release of approximately 1,700 Ansarullah detainees in return for 1,200 prisoners held by Sana’a.
