Tehran: Iranian authorities have issued an urgent appeal to residents of Tehran to ration their water usage due to a severe shortage, as efforts to improve the situation continue. The authorities are focusing on completing one of two ongoing projects aimed at alleviating the water crisis by the end of the summer.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Tehran City Council Chairman Mehdi Chamran conveyed that the Director-General of the Tehran Water Resources Company is striving to maintain water supply to the capital to prevent a drop in pressure. Chamran emphasized the importance of residents rationing their water consumption to avert pressure issues. He expressed concern over the worsening problem and hoped for the completion of one of the two projects to mitigate the situation.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian previously highlighted that the water shortage impacts all sectors under state control, necessitating a comprehensive and radical solution. Pezeshkian’s press office has indicated his call for the formation of expert committees composed of specialists and government employees from relevant agencies to tackle the crisis effectively.

Tasnim News Agency reported that Tehran relies on underground sources for 30% of its water, while the remaining 70% comes from five reservoirs around the city. The ongoing projects aim to address these distribution challenges and ensure a stable water supply for Tehran’s residents.
