Baghdad: Iranian border guards foiled an attempt by armed groups to infiltrate the country’s southeastern border. Commander of the border guards in Sistan and Baluchestan province, Brigadier General Reza Shojaei, announced that his forces clashed with an armed group on the border strip near the city of Saravan.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, this operation was the result of precise intelligence monitoring and a swift intervention, which resulted in inflicting heavy losses on the armed elements and preventing them from entering Iranian territory. Shojaei indicated that intelligence revealed the intention of these groups to exploit two important occasions – the anniversary of the birth of Imam Ali and the anniversary of the assassination of the former commander of the Quds Force, Major General Qassem Soleimani – to carry out attacks aimed at destabilizing security in the interior cities.
