Baghdad: The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Baghdad condemned the United States’ interventionist position on bilateral relations between Iran and Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Embassy emphasized the shared will of Iran and Iraq to strengthen relations between the two neighboring Muslim peoples on the basis of good neighborliness and mutual respect. This cooperation is seen as a guarantee of peace, stability, and security on their shared borders and in the region.

The Embassy’s statement criticized the US State Department Spokesman’s comments, which opposed the signing of a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between Iran and Iraq. The memorandum aims to enhance the security of both countries and combat terrorism. The Embassy described these comments as unacceptable interference in the relations between two independent neighboring countries and as evidence of a destabilizing approach by the United States toward the region.

It further stressed that such interventionist positions violate the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, which are based on “cooperation among states.”
