Tehran: The Iranian Foreign Ministry affirmed that its strikes on US bases in the Gulf were a legitimate act of self-defense. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei stated on Sunday that "what the region is witnessing is not a military confrontation, but rather a continuation of a blatant and unjustified aggression initiated by the United States and Israel on February 28th."
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Baghaei emphasized, in remarks addressed to the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, that "the Iranian strikes targeting US bases and assets in the Gulf constitute a legitimate and legal exercise of the right to self-defense." He added that "blaming Iran for defending its sovereignty, while failing to hold the aggressors accountable for their flagrant violation of international law, is not a responsible stance."
