Axios: Iran launched at least two missiles toward commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz: Iran’s Revolutionary Guard reportedly fired at least two missiles aimed at commercial ships navigating through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday evening, leading to significant damage to two vessels.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the incident was reported by Axios, which cited a US official confirming the attack. Fortunately, there were no casualties as a result of the missile strikes. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) stated that one of the affected vessels, the liquefied natural gas tanker Al-Ruqayyat, owned by Nakilat, suffered a fire on its port side above the engine room due to an unidentified projectile. This incident occurred approximately 15 kilometers east of Lima, Oman, while the tanker was en route south. Despite the damage, there were no reports of casualties or environmental impact resulting from the fire.

Iranian state television provided a narrative that the Qatari oil tanker Al-Ruqayyat was trying to navigate the Strait via the Omani route under the protection of the US Navy. The tanker allegedly became a target for the missiles after disregarding multiple warnings. Earlier in the week, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Revolutionary Guard had issued warnings through maritime communications, stating their readiness to launch missiles and drones at vessels in the area.
