Iranian Parliament Denies Request for Direct Negotiations with US

Tehran: Iranian authorities denied that Tehran had asked European diplomats to convey a message to Washington regarding readiness for direct negotiations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Iranian parliament, MP Ibrahim Rezaei, stated: “We do not have any bilateral negotiations with the Americans, and the negotiations will be exclusively within the framework of 5+1,” referring to the countries included in the nuclear agreement.

The spokesman highlighted that the meeting of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Iranian parliament discussed the positions announced in the last meeting held by the Iranian deputy foreign ministers with their European counterparts in Geneva on January 13. He emphasized that “According to the clarifications provided, we will face any kind of pressure with counter-pressure, and any attack on our facilities will be met with a similar reaction.”
