Baghdad: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf confirmed on Tuesday that the United States has a commitment, according to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to end the war on Lebanon and guarantee its sovereignty. Ghalibaf emphasized the significance of this commitment during a press conference, underscoring Iran’s active role in monitoring the situation.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Ghalibaf stated, “There is a US commitment, according to the MoU, to end the war on Lebanon and guarantee its sovereignty.” He highlighted the involvement of Pakistani and Qatari mediators in overseeing the implementation of Article 13 of the MoU with the United States, indicating a collaborative international effort in this regard.
Furthermore, Ghalibaf clarified that Iran will not engage in negotiations for a final agreement until Articles 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11 of the MoU are implemented by the United States. This stipulation reflects Iran’s strategic approach to ensuring that preliminary conditions are met before advancing discussions.
He also mentioned the formation of a joint committee involving the United States, Iran, and Lebanon to monitor the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon. Ghalibaf affirmed Iran’s serious pursuit of this initiative, aiming to uphold Lebanon’s sovereignty and contribute to regional stability.
