Washington: Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has reportedly targeted a third commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, as tensions in the region escalate over maritime security concerns.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Axios cited a US official who confirmed the incident, highlighting it as a continuation of aggressive actions by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. This development follows previous reports of attacks on commercial vessels in the strategically significant waterway.

NBC also quoted the same US official, stating that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard used a drone to target a commercial vessel near the Strait of Hormuz. The official further disclosed that the US military successfully shot down multiple drones launched by Iran as part of their defensive measures.

The US official elaborated that Iran had also attacked two ships overnight, employing two missiles that traveled a short distance at high speed. These actions are described as aggressive and a direct violation of the Memorandum of Understanding, according to the official’s statements.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical juncture for global oil shipments, and these incidents underscore the heightened tensions and security challenges in the region.
