Baghdad: The head of the executive body of the Communications and Media Commission, Baligh Abu Kalal, confirmed on Saturday that Starlink has officially begun operating in the Iraqi market. "Starlink is officially operating in the Iraqi market as of today, and procedures for selling devices and fully activating the system will commence," said Abu Kalal in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Abu Kalal emphasized that older devices previously operating illegally will be transferred to the Iraqi system, ensuring that their users will not face any penalties. This development marks a significant step in regulating services within Iraq. The Communications and Media Commission has been diligent in establishing controls to preserve Iraqi security and sovereignty, both technically and in terms of security. Additionally, a regulatory framework has been prepared to align with Iraq's specific circumstances and guarantee its rights across various sectors.

Abu Kalal further explained that Iraq is set to achieve the highest financial return from Starlink in the region, and potentially in the world. This outcome reflects the nature of the agreement concluded with the company, which safeguards the rights of the Iraqi state.
