Baghdad Iraq confirmed that the only way to achieve comprehensive peace in Palestine is to end the occupation of the Palestinian territories, and respect the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today, “the Head of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences in the Ministry, Abbas Kadhem Obaid, gave Iraq’s speech at the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Program of Action, in which he stressed that, after twenty years since its adoption, the Durban Declaration and Action Plan still provide a comprehensive road map and complete to address and put an end to racism and discrimination.”

He said: “Racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance constitute a denial of the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and that equality and non-discrimination are fundamental principles of international human rights law.”

He added, “the Iraqi constitution prohibits any entity or approach that adopts racism, terrorism, infidels, or any approach that incites or promotes racism, indicating Iraq’s support for efforts to achieve justice and equality for people of African descent.”

He stressed that the only way to achieve comprehensive peace in Palestine is to end the occupation of the Palestinian territories, and respect the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination
