Baghdad:Head of the National Wisdom Movement, Sayyed Ammar Al-Hakim, emphasized Iraq’s dedication to maintaining open communication with all parties and avoiding involvement in regional blocs. He stressed the country’s commitment to repairing relations with neighboring countries amid recent developments.
According to the Iraqi News Agency, Al-Hakim expressed that Iraq sees Egypt as an elder brother among Arab countries, highlighting ongoing communication with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. He noted Iraq’s special circumstances, understanding the positions taken by Iranian officials, and mentioned that the Gulf Cooperation Council countries have not withdrawn ambassadors from Iraq.
Al-Hakim stated that Iraq stands in solidarity with Iran against sanctions, while also seeking to shield its people from similar measures, recalling the hardships faced by the Iraqi people from past sanctions. He highlighted Iraq’s achievement as the first country to obtain a U.S. exemption for Najaf Airport’s dealings with Iran, which has facilitated visitor access through understanding with the United States.
He expressed gratitude to the Iraqi government for resolving the airspace ban issue, underscoring the positive relationship between Iraq and Iran. He clarified that some internal actions have led to accusations against Iraq, but emphasized that recent decisions aim to protect Iraqis from sanctions without targeting anyone.
Al-Hakim acknowledged the significant assistance provided by 84 countries in the Global Coalition against ISIS, which supported Iraq both in combat and international forums. He praised the coalition’s efforts and underscored the importance of genuine partnership in governance.
Discussing domestic politics, Al-Hakim highlighted disagreements since 2013 that have stalled the Federal Supreme Court Law. He explained that the Coordination Framework, consisting of 14 political entities, only reveals consensus issues. Despite not representing all forces within Iraq’s largest component, the framework remains cohesive in managing internal differences.
