Vienna: Iraq and Austria have engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing joint cooperation to combat human trafficking networks and promote legal migration channels. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom, met with the Austrian Director General for Migration and International Affairs, Peter Webinger, to deliberate on these pressing issues.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Bahr Aluloom conducted a series of bilateral consultations in Vienna, focusing on migration and the political, security, and economic developments in Iraq. The discussions highlighted that the stability in Iraq has been a significant factor encouraging the voluntary return of Iraqi migrants.

The ambassador emphasized that the Iraqi government is committed to creating favorable conditions for returnees and acknowledged the Iraqi diaspora's positive representation abroad. He urged for continued Austrian support for the Iraqi community residing in Austria.

Webinger praised the Iraqi government's efforts to combat illegal migration and noted the improvements in Iraq's security and economic landscape. He expressed Austria's interest in expanding cooperation with Baghdad in areas such as combating extremism, addressing violence, and supporting reintegration programs.

The talks concluded with both parties underscoring the necessity of intensified coordination and information exchange to effectively curb human trafficking and safeguard citizens' rights.
