Baghdad: The Federal Integrity Commission announced today the signing of a landmark agreement with the People’s Republic of China aimed at unifying efforts to promote integrity and further Iraq’s participation in Beijing’s Clean Silk Road Initiative. This collaborative move seeks to provide a transparent and corruption-free environment along the Silk Road, thereby enhancing investment opportunities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, discussions between the Commission and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Iraq focused on the Commission’s accession to the ‘Beijing Clean Silk Road Initiative.’ This initiative is centered on combating corruption, identified as a major obstacle to investment, and ensuring a clean environment for the Silk Road project.

Mohammed Ali Al-Lami, the head of the commission, highlighted the significant and strategic nature of Iraq-China relations, emphasizing the partnership level between the two nations. He outlined efforts to strengthen oversight, including preventive and educational measures, to build a social system that opposes corruption. Al-Lami noted that enhancing these aspects would empower oversight agencies in preserving public funds and curbing corruption.

The Chinese ambassador echoed the importance of unifying anti-corruption efforts to bolster the Belt and Road Initiative. He stressed the importance of openness, green development, and integrity, urging participation in creating a clean Silk Road based on the principles of Beijing’s initiative. The ambassador also commended the commission’s efforts in prosecuting those who misappropriate public funds and fostering transparency to create a conducive environment for investment.
