Iraq and France Sign Key Memoranda of Understanding in Defense, Energy, and Aviation


Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi and French President Emmanuel Macron sponsored the signing ceremony of several memoranda of understanding between Iraq and France.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the agreements were aimed at strengthening bilateral relations across multiple sectors. The memoranda included a Letter of Intent between the Iraqi Ministry of Defense and Harmattan Artificial Intelligence Company, focusing on strategic cooperation in air defense. In addition, a Declaration of Intent was signed between the Iraqi Ministry of Defense and the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, which involved the provision of French military equipment to aid in Iraq’s reconstruction and defense capability development.



Further agreements sought to enhance opportunities for youth and innovation, with the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs collaborating with the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Another Declaration of Intent aimed at strengthening partnerships with the French Development Agency was also signed.



In the energy sector, a cooperation protocol was established between the Ministry of Electricity and Total Energies, concerning a gas supply and sale contract. Additionally, a Declaration of Intent was signed for cooperation in civil aviation between the Iraqi and French Ministries of Transport.
