Baghdad: Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Mohammed Hussein Mohammed Bahr Al-Uloom, engaged in discussions with the German Ambassador, Christiane Homann, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation and solidifying the economic partnership between Iraq and Germany.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that Bahr Al-Uloom welcomed the German Ambassador at the ministry’s headquarters, where the two parties explored ways to boost cooperation. They emphasized the significance of strengthening economic ties, increasing trade exchange, and activating existing bilateral agreements to serve the mutual interests of both nations.
The Undersecretary appreciated the involvement of German companies in Iraq, particularly acknowledging the role of BAYER Chemical Industries. He emphasized Germany’s potential contribution to Iraq’s infrastructure rehabilitation, notably within the “Development Road” project. Efforts to facilitate the operations of German development agencies in Iraq were also discussed, alongside a call to lift travel warnings to Iraq to further bolster bilateral relations.
The German Ambassador expressed gratitude for the ongoing collaboration between the countries and acknowledged Iraq’s progress in various sectors, reflecting the Iraqi government’s efforts towards stability and development. Christiane Homann praised the initiatives of Iraqi diplomatic missions abroad, particularly in issuing passports and unified national cards, reaffirming Germany’s commitment to sustained cooperation with Iraq.
In discussions on regional developments, Bahr Al-Uloom outlined Iraq’s approach to current challenges, advocating for dialogue to mitigate the impact of regional tensions. He also addressed the situation in Syria, emphasizing the importance of respecting the Syrian people’s political choices and cautioning against the resurgence of ISIS, underscoring the need for intensified regional and international cooperation against this threat.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing on the necessity of enhanced diplomatic efforts to alleviate regional tensions, improve humanitarian support, and coordinate in combating terrorism. They also highlighted the importance of a political resolution in Syria that respects human rights and societal diversity.
