Iraq and Germany Explore Strengthening Cultural and Academic Ties

Baghdad: The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Planning, Hisham Al-Alawi, met with a German delegation that included representatives from the German Embassy in Baghdad and the Goethe Institute, headed by the Institute’s Director, Thomas Lehr. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation between Iraq and Germany, particularly in cultural and scientific areas, to serve the common interests of both countries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Alawi highlighted the importance of developing the partnership by working towards signing a memorandum of understanding for cultural and academic cooperation. He stressed the need to strengthen training and development programs and broaden the scope of cultural exchange between relevant institutions in both nations.

Al-Alawi also advocated for a review of travel advisories to Iraq, reflecting the improved security and stability the country is experiencing, akin to several European countries. Such a review would facilitate movement and tourism while bolstering economic and cultural cooperation.

The German delegation expressed its readiness to enhance joint efforts with Iraq and expand cooperation to strengthen the bilateral partnership across various fields. They also showed willingness to collaborate with the Ministry’s Foreign Service Institute to conduct language development training courses and organize diplomatic workshops aimed at ministry personnel.
