Iraq and Jordan Consider Amending Memorandum for Prisoner Exchange

Baghdad: Iraq and Jordan are exploring the possibility of amending their bilateral memorandum of understanding to include the exchange of prisoners. Iraqi Minister of Justice Khalid Shawani met on Tuesday with the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the Republic of Iraq, Maher Salem Tarawneh, to discuss the possibility of amending the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Iraq and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The amendment would expand cooperation to include the exchange of prisoners between Baghdad and Amman, based on the provisions of the Riyadh Agreement and in accordance with the legislation in force in both countries, thus strengthening legal and humanitarian cooperation between the two sides.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Minister of Justice emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in various judicial and legal fields, in order to achieve common interests and enhance the exchange of expertise between the two countries. For his part, the Jordanian Ambassador expressed his country's readiness to enhance cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Justice and develop the bilateral partnership in a way that serves the interests of both countries and their brotherly peoples, affirming the Kingdom's keenness to expand the areas of judicial and legal cooperation with Iraq.
