Baghdad: Iraq and Lebanon have initiated discussions on the Memorandum of Understanding concerning land transport between the two nations. The Ministry of Transport, alongside the Lebanese Ministry of Public Works and Transport, focused on the implementation stages of the agreement, seeking to strengthen collaboration in land transport. The talks aimed to address potential challenges that could impede the movement of passengers and goods, with the objective of promoting seamless trade flow and supporting transport and transit within the established legal and technical frameworks.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Transport issued a press release stating that its technical committee, responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2025, convened its first meeting. This gathering took place at the headquarters of the General Company for Land Transport, under the leadership of the Director of the Internal Audit and Control Department. The meeting saw attendance from representatives of various departments, including Legal and Technical, International Cooperation, Border Ports Authority, and the General Authority of Customs.

The ministry emphasized the necessity of expediting the finalization of implementation procedures related to the memorandum. Furthermore, it highlighted the importance of engaging with the Lebanese side through diplomatic channels to appoint representatives for the formation of a joint Iraqi-Lebanese committee. This initiative is crucial to enhancing mutual interests and fostering economic integration between Iraq and Lebanon.
