Baghdad: The Republic of Iraq and the Kingdom of Morocco have signed a memorandum of understanding focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in combating and preventing corruption. This initiative aims to bolster collaboration and develop bilateral relations under national legal frameworks, aligning with Article 6 of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the memorandum was signed by Mohammed Ali Al-Lami, Chairman of the Federal Integrity Commission of Iraq, and Mohammed Benalilou, Chairman of the National Commission for Integrity and Prevention of Corruption of Morocco. The signing ceremony followed joint meetings that discussed cooperation and joint activities. These activities are set to include the exchange of expertise, information, and data, as well as cooperation in recovering funds and assets. Additionally, the memorandum facilitates the extradition of individuals convicted of corruption crimes to the requesting authorities.
The memorandum also encompasses cooperation in scientific and academic studies and research, the encouragement of joint publications, and the sharing of information related to criminal methods leading to corruption and strategies for prevention.
