Baghdad: The second session of the High-Level Strategic Partnership Dialogue between Iraq and NATO was held at the National Security Chancellery headquarters today, Wednesday.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the National Security Chancellery’s media office announced that the meeting was headed by Iraq’s National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji and NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Operations Tomas Kofos. The discussions focused on enhancing the strategic partnership, which is prioritized by the Iraqi government in alignment with its strategic vision amidst rapid regional developments.

The media office further explained that the dialogue included discussions on supporting capacity-building for Iraqi security institutions through comprehensive training packages facilitated by the NATO Advisory Mission in Iraq.

During the meeting, Al-Araji highlighted the significance of NATO’s advisory, non-combat mission for the Iraqi government, led by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and stressed the importance of respecting Iraq’s sovereignty in all cooperative efforts.

Kofos, on his part, reaffirmed NATO’s commitment to supporting Iraq and acknowledged the crucial role Iraq plays in regional stability. He commended the Iraqi security services for their effectiveness in combating terrorism and ensured that NATO’s mission in Iraq operates according to the Iraqi government’s requirements and legal frameworks.
