Baghdad: The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammad Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, met with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Iraq, Mohammad Zeeshan Ahmed, at the Ministry building.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated in a press release that the meeting addressed the development of bilateral relations between Baghdad and Islamabad and discussed ways to enhance cooperation to serve the common interests of the two friendly countries.
Ambassador Bahr Al-Uloom emphasized Iraq’s interest in the tourism sector in general, and religious tourism in particular, noting the Ministry’s efforts, in cooperation with relevant institutions, to simplify procedures for Pakistani citizens wishing to visit holy shrines.
On the economic front, both sides stressed the need to regulate the status of Pakistani workers in accordance with Iraqi laws, ensuring their safety and legal residency, in coordination with the relevant government agencies.
On the other hand, the two sides discussed the geopolitical developments in the region and their repercussions, and agreed on the importance of prioritizing dialogue and resorting to diplomacy and constructive negotiation as a means to resolve disputes, thereby contributing to the preservation of regional and international security and stability.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Ambassador Ahmed affirmed his government’s commitment to leveraging the historical relationship with Iraq to broaden the horizons of cooperation in various sectors and to exchange expertise in a way that fulfills the aspirations of both friendly nations.
