Iraq And Spain Emphasize The Importance Of Continuing Coordination To Combat ISIS Terrorists


Baghdad: The Iraqi and Spanish Ministries of Foreign Affairs engaged in political consultations in Baghdad, focusing on regional and international developments with an emphasis on the situation in Syria. The discussions underscored the necessity of ongoing coordination in the fight against ISIS.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Undersecretary of Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, emphasized the importance of these talks amidst various political, security, and economic challenges. He acknowledged Spain’s role within the Global Coalition and its commitment to security and stability in Iraq, particularly in training and capacity-building for Iraqi security forces. Bahr Al-Uloom also appreciated the bilateral cooperation in co-chairing the Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism.



Bahr Al-Uloom expressed gratitude for Spain’s contribution of 1 million pounds to support the outcomes of the Al-Hol Camp international conference. He also lauded Madrid’s decision to revise travel advisories to Iraq, viewing it as a positive step toward bolstering bilateral cooperation.



Spanish Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Diego Martínez Belío highlighted his country’s eagerness to strengthen its partnership with Iraq, especially in economic sectors. He noted that Iraq’s positive developments offer strong incentives for expanding cooperation.



The discussions also touched upon the Palestinian issue, with Iraq acknowledging Spain’s supportive stance towards the rights of the Palestinian people. The consultations concluded with an agreement to sustain coordination and dialogue that benefits both countries.
