Baghdad: Iraqi Minister of Justice, Khalid Shawani, met with the Swedish Charg© d’Affaires, J¶rgen Lindstr¶m, in Baghdad on Wednesday to discuss prospects for legal and judicial cooperation and ways to develop it.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated in a press release that Shawani received Lindstr¶m at the Ministry headquarters. The statement added that the meeting addressed prospects for legal and judicial cooperation between the two countries and ways to develop it to serve mutual interests. They also discussed the possibility of concluding an agreement on the exchange of prisoners and expanding the exchange of expertise in legal disputes and international arbitration.

Shawani emphasized the Ministry of Justice’s commitment to openness in its international relations, particularly in the legal and judicial fields and human rights.

For his part, Lindstr¶m praised “the positive developments witnessed in Iraq, particularly within prisons and correctional institutions,” expressing “his country’s desire to expand cooperation with Iraq in the legal and judicial fields, and to support capacity-building programs and the exchange of expertise between the two sides.”
