New York:Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis engaged in discussions focusing on international and regional efforts to address the crisis related to the Strait of Hormuz, alongside developments in the Middle East and strategies to support diplomatic de-escalation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting took place on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The discussions highlighted Iraq-Switzerland relations and coordination on regional developments, with an emphasis on reducing tensions and supporting dialogue initiatives to foster de-escalation.

The ministers examined the international and regional efforts to manage the crisis around the Strait of Hormuz and its impact on trade, energy, and the global economy, as well as its effects on regional relations.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of maintaining coordination, exchanging views, and supporting diplomatic initiatives to contain crises and create opportunities for peaceful and sustainable solutions.

Cassis elaborated on Switzerland’s mediation efforts and initiatives towards de-escalation in Lebanon, confirming Switzerland’s commitment to ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Hussein pointed out Iraq’s significant challenges due to wars and conflicts in the region and their impact on security and economy, stressing the need for enhanced international and regional efforts to prevent the widening of conflicts and their repercussions on the region.
