Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sponsored the signing ceremony of 10 memoranda of understanding between Iraq and Turkey in several fields.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the agreements encompass a wide range of sectors, aiming to bolster bilateral relations between the two countries. The memoranda include cooperation in defense industries and the exchange of expertise, highlighting the strategic importance of military collaboration. Additionally, a memorandum was signed to establish standard operating procedures for the voluntary return of Iraqi citizens from Turkey, reflecting a commitment to addressing migration issues.

The judicial sector will also see enhanced cooperation through a draft memorandum, while efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking were formalized in another agreement. In education, a protocol was signed to open branches of Turkish universities in Baghdad and Basra, facilitating academic exchange and collaboration.

Emergency and disaster management cooperation was another key focus, as was digital public relations, where specific measures for collaboration were outlined. Further, a memorandum was signed in the field of measurement and calibration activities, aiming to standardize practices between the two nations. Lastly, two memoranda were signed for training cooperation within Iraq’s Ministry of Interior, emphasizing capacity-building and skill enhancement in law enforcement.
