Baghdad: The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Relations and Legal Affairs, Ambassador Shorsh Khalid Saeed, hosted the Ukrainian Ambassador to Baghdad, Ivan Dovhanich, at the ministry's headquarters on Tuesday evening to discuss ongoing collaboration between Iraq and Ukraine.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussion underscored the importance of bilateral relations and the mutual desire to strengthen ties to benefit both nations. Ambassador Saeed extended congratulations to Ukraine on its Independence Day and praised the existing relationship between the two countries.
Ambassador Dovhanich, in response, appreciated Iraq's contributions towards regional security and stability, acknowledging its significant role in fostering regional and international relationships. The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing on the necessity of continued cooperation in international forums, mutual support for nominations, and addressing the status of Iraqi students in Ukraine. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of activating the joint governmental committee and political consultations between their respective Foreign Ministries.
Ambassador Saeed also highlighted the importance of resolving the Russia-Ukraine crisis peacefully, advocating for dialogue, negotiation, and self-restraint to prevent escalation and promote a diplomatic resolution.
