Riyadh: Iraq, represented by Minister of Industry and Minerals Khalid Battal Al-Najm, signed the UNIDO Country Program for Iraq 2026-2030 with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), represented by its Director-General Gerd Mller, during the UNIDO conference currently being held in Riyadh.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated in a press release that the program represents a strategic framework aimed at promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development. It aligns with Iraq’s Vision 2030, the National Industrial Strategy 2024-2030, and the UN Framework for Cooperation 2025-2029. The program focuses on diversifying the economy and reducing dependence on oil, in addition to supporting inclusive growth.

The program also aims to enhance job creation, support the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), achieve food security, and promote green growth. It contributes to mobilizing public and private sector investments and leveraging UNIDO’s expertise to contribute to industrial development and building a resilient and diversified economy that supports Iraq’s development goals.
