Baghdad: Iraq and Uzbekistan are currently engaged in discussions to formalize an agreement aimed at regulating the land transport of passengers and goods between the two nations. The Ministry of Transport has confirmed that communication and coordination will continue between Iraqi and Uzbek authorities in the coming period to finalize the draft agreement. This effort is expected to serve mutual interests and broaden cooperation in the land transport sector.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Transport released a press statement indicating that Murtadha Al-Shahmani, Director of the General Company for Land Transport, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conducted a virtual meeting with Uzbek counterparts. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the draft agreement for cooperation in land transport, which is part of a larger framework aimed at expanding international cooperation and enhancing the land transport sector.

During the meeting, the draft articles prepared by the Iraqi side, with input from the General Company for Land Transport, were presented. These articles, particularly those concerning the transport of goods, aim to reach a consensus that will help regulate and develop land transport while boosting trade exchange between Iraq and Uzbekistan.

Al-Shahmani highlighted the involvement of representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Justice, along with several departments from the Ministry of Transport and other relevant authorities. The meeting allowed for an exchange of views and observations on the agreement’s articles, adhering to the legal and regulatory frameworks established by both countries.
