Baghdad: Iraq condemned Colombia’s decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed in a statement: “The Golan is occupied Syrian territory, and no party has the right to change its legal status or grant the occupation legitimacy upon which it has no basis.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry added: “Colombia’s decision has no legal effect and does not alter the fact that the Golan is an integral part of the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic.” The Ministry stressed that “recognizing the sovereignty of an occupying power over occupied territory constitutes a dangerous precedent and undermines the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, particularly the principle of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.”

The Ministry reiterated Iraq’s firm stance in rejecting the Israeli occupation of the occupied Arab territories.
