Iraq Condemns Terrorist Attack in Jammu and Kashmir

Baghdad: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed Iraq’s condemnation, in the strongest terms, of the terrorist attack that took place in the Pahalgam area of Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in a number of casualties and the injury of dozens of innocent civilians.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry expressed Iraq’s solidarity with friendly India in these painful circumstances, affirming Iraq’s firm position rejecting all forms of terrorism, violence, and extremism, regardless of their motives and justifications.

In a statement, it also offered its sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the government and people of India and to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured and that the region may enjoy security and stability.

It is worth noting that at least 24 people were killed earlier in an armed attack on a group of tourists in the Indian-administered part of Kashmir, which is disputed with Pakistan.

Local authorities said the attack was the worst targeting civilians in recent years, noting that the death toll was “still being determined.”

For his part, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned, in a statement, the armed attack that took place in the Pahalgam resort, pledging to hold the perpetrators of the attack accountable before the justice authorities.
