Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced the discharging of 180 enlisted personnel, in addition to the dismissal of 3,245 personnel who had deserted.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the head of the Media and Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Interior, Major General Muqdad Miri, stated on Wednesday that 38 officers were dismissed from service following their proven involvement in administrative and financial corruption cases.

“The Ministry of Interior is committed to implementing a strict approach to combating corruption and strengthening professional discipline within the security establishment. No one is immune from prosecution if their involvement in cases that compromise integrity or tarnish the reputation of the institution is proven,” Major General Miri emphasized.

He further noted that during the first 100 days of the current government, decisive measures led to the permanent dismissal of 38 officers due to proven corruption involvement. Additionally, 180 personnel were dismissed based on final court rulings for similar reasons, along with 3,245 personnel who had deserted. These actions form part of the Ministry’s efforts to instill discipline and reinforce adherence to laws and professional duties.

Major General Miri also highlighted that these measures demonstrate the Ministry of Interior’s serious and firm stance on any case of corruption or dereliction of duty. The ongoing reform and accountability process is aimed at protecting the security establishment from corruption and strengthening discipline within its ranks, essential for building a professional security apparatus that enjoys public trust and maintains the prestige of the state.
