Baghdad: Iraq is focusing on harnessing the expertise of South Korea in the sectors of energy, renewable energy, and artificial intelligence. Shorsh Khalid Saeed, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Relations and Legal Affairs and Vice Chairman of the Iraqi-Korean Joint Committee, chaired the preparatory meeting for the tenth session of the committee, which took place at the Ministry's headquarters.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Undersecretary highlighted the significance of drawing from Korea's experience in various essential sectors. These sectors include energy, renewable energy, technology associated with artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, automation, and communications, along with industry, education, culture, sports, trade, and investment. He noted that numerous reputable Korean companies had shown interest in participating in an investment forum planned for Baghdad, which was postponed due to regional circumstances.

The Undersecretary commended the formation of the Iraqi-Korean Business Council, recognizing it as a crucial step towards enhancing economic and trade ties between the two nations. He urged the Korean private sector and businessmen to initiate joint investment projects with their Iraqi counterparts, with a focus on residential city construction, renewable energy initiatives, and waste recycling.

Representatives from state ministries, the Investment Commission, and the Chamber of Commerce contributed constructively to the meeting, expressing their commitment to expanding cooperation with South Korea. Discussions also covered agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries, with a consensus reached on their implementation. Drafts intended for the upcoming Joint Committee meeting with the Korean side were also reviewed.
