Baghdad: The Minister of Environment emphasizes the importance of partnership with the International Organization for Migration to address environmental and climate challenges. Minister of Environment Sarwa Abdul Wahid recently met with Pascal Rentgens, the head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) mission in Iraq, to explore avenues for joint cooperation on pressing environmental issues. The discussions focused on climate change, climate-related migration, rehabilitation of affected areas, and support for vulnerable local communities.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Minister Abdul Wahid highlighted the significance of expanding the partnership with IOM. She emphasized leveraging the organization's expertise to implement both environmental and humanitarian initiatives, aiming to bolster Iraq's capacity to address climate challenges effectively and work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Pascal Rentgens, representing IOM, reiterated the organization's commitment to continued collaboration with Iraq's Ministry of Environment.
