Baghdad: The Ministry of Oil is engaging in discussions with the Angolan company Sonangol to explore the potential for increasing production at the Qayyarah field and advancing the integrated refinery project. These discussions are part of Iraq’s broader efforts to enhance its oil sector capabilities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Naseer Aziz Jabbar, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Extraction Affairs, led the discussions with Sonangol officials. The focus was on the prospects for boosting production levels at the Qayyarah oil field, located in the Nineveh Governorate, and developing the integrated refinery project. The Ministry highlighted that the meeting addressed strategies to develop the field, increase crude oil output, and explore options for transporting, marketing, and exporting the produced oil.

The Ministry’s press release further elaborated on the importance of the Qayyarah integrated refinery project. The project is deemed crucial for utilizing the field’s production, enhancing refining capacity, and supplying petroleum products. These efforts align with the Ministry’s broader plans to bolster the oil sector in Nineveh Governorate, thereby supporting economic development in the region.
