Baghdad: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with the new Chinese Ambassador to Iraq, Xiang Bo, and the new Brazilian Ambassador to Iraq, Alfredo Cesar Martinho Leoni, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and political coordination.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Hussein received Xiang Bo at the Ministry building, where the ambassador presented a copy of his credentials. During their meeting, they discussed the development of bilateral relations between Iraq and China, especially in the economic and trade sectors. With approximately 130 Chinese companies operating in Iraq and an increasing volume of trade exchange, both parties underscored the importance of political coordination on regional and international issues, including the Palestinian issue. Hussein praised the cooperation between the Iraqi and Chinese foreign ministries and the role of the Chinese embassy in Baghdad, emphasizing the continued joint efforts needed to develop relations. He also extended an invitation to the Chinese foreign minister to visit Baghdad.
In another meeting, Hussein received the new Brazilian ambassador, Alfredo Cesar Martinho Leoni, who presented his credentials. The Brazilian ambassador conveyed greetings from Brazil’s foreign minister to Hussein. Discussions centered on the history of Iraq-Brazil relations, dating back to 1961, and the importance of elevating their cooperation. Hussein praised the Brazilian Embassy’s role in maintaining bilateral relations and stressed the importance of its continued efforts. Both parties discussed the significance of exchanging visits and expanding economic cooperation in existing sectors, while exploring new opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
Hussein commended the positive diplomatic relations between Iraq and Brazil and highlighted the agreement on several issues of common interest. He affirmed Iraq’s aspiration for continued coordination and cooperation with Brazil, assuring that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would provide necessary support to the new Brazilian Ambassador to ensure the success of his mission.
