Berlin: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi has declared the relationship between Iraq and Germany as exceptional, highlighting mutual respect as the foundation of their partnership. During a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, al-Zaidi emphasized Iraq’s perception of Germany as a reliable partner that has left no negative impact on the country, expressing a desire to build economic bridges between the two nations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Zaidi highlighted Iraq’s abundance of resources and the need for German expertise. He pointed out Germany’s role as a point of convergence and a solution to global disputes. Al-Zaidi also outlined Iraq’s vision to expand its oil export routes to Europe and the United States, mentioning plans to export crude oil via Syria and Turkey. He cited the impact of the Strait of Hormuz crisis on Iraq and global markets due to the inability to export oil.

Addressing the issue of foreign prisoners affiliated with ISIS, the Prime Minister clarified that it falls under judicial jurisdiction, indicating no governmental authority over the matter. On the topic of state monopoly on weapons, al-Zaidi reiterated that arms will remain under state control, with decisions of war and peace resting solely with the government. He affirmed the capability of Iraqi security forces to protect the country’s security, a topic discussed with leaders from the United States, France, and Germany.

Regarding the targeting of Saudi Arabia, al-Zaidi mentioned that investigations are ongoing and results are under analysis. In discussing the relationship with the Kurdistan Region, he stated that it is an integral part of the Iraqi state with constitutional and legal entitlements. Al-Zaidi called on countries that supported Iraq during the war against ISIS to enhance economic partnerships and contribute to reconstruction and development efforts.
