Baghdad: The Ministry of Electricity announced on Monday the suspension of the interconnection with Kuwait due to regional events. “Imported energy includes 600 megawatts via the interconnection with Turkey, 50 megawatts via the Jordanian line, in addition to 600 megawatts from regional interconnection routes, and 1400 megawatts from investment power plants in the Kurdistan Region,” said Ministry spokesman Ahmed Turki Jiyad to the Iraqi News Agency – INA.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the completion of the electrical interconnection with Kuwait stands at 96 percent. However, the project has come to a halt on the Kuwaiti side due to ongoing regional events. Turki expressed hope that the work would resume once the situation stabilizes.

The spokesperson further mentioned notable advancements in discussions regarding the electrical interconnection with Saudi Arabia. These developments come after the Minister of Electricity, Ali Saadi Wahib, engaged with the World Bank to prioritize the regional interconnection project with Saudi Arabia. This discussion is expected to continue during the Prime Minister, Ali Falih al-Zaidi’s upcoming visit to Riyadh.
